Clwb Ifor Bach opened in 1983 and has always sought to promote the Welsh language music scene in Cardiff. The Clwb Ifor Bach jukebox was well known for stocking the best new Welsh pop music and classic albums from the past like Meic Stevens and Yr Anrhefn. It was unique to Cardiff as it was the only one of its kind in Wales! Fans of the Welsh language music scene would come down to Clwb Ifor Bach to socialise and use the jukebox to hear new tracks from artists such as Super Furry Animals, Gorky’s and classic bands like Datlygu. It was special, as it was the only place fans could hear these new tracks before they got released. Clwb Ifor Bach would be sent promotional copies from radio pluggers who knew how important and influential the Welsh language scene was, whether you spoke the language or not.
