Cardiff Corporation built the Clarence Road Bridge following the Taff Vale Railway Company’s decision to impose a toll on their bridge. The bridge created a direct route between Grangetown and the docks, improving communications between the west of Cardiff and the docks.
This plaque was erected on the bridge to mark its opening by the Duke of Clarence on the 17th September 1890.
