This souvenir plate, showing a picture of Cardiff Docks, was owned by an electrician who worked at one of the dry docks in Cardiff.
Jennifer Watkins tells us: "This plate was owned by my father, Ted Meredith. He worked for CH Baileys, which was a firm that did ship repairs, at the Channel Dry Dock, as a foreman electrician. He spent his whole working life at the docks. And his father also worked at the docks. He'd do electrical repairs to ships, he'd work long days. He'd have to go with the tide and if he hadn't finished work on a ship he would carry on working on it as it was sailing off with the tide and then he would come back to the docks with the pilot. This was a way to check everything he'd fixed was now working!"
