The Coal Exchange was one of the dock's most important buildings. Built in 1886 it was the place in which you could buy, sell and arrange the shipment of coal. As well as the main trading floor, there were offices, a tailor, a barber and a wine merchant on site. Culley's Restaurant, where this tankard was originally used, was on a lower floor of the building.
