This gym shirt was worn by Norman Williams, who grew up in Canton in the 1930s and 40s. Norman attended Canton High School for Boys during this period.
The red and black (faded) coloured bands on the arms and collar of the gym shirt represents Boswell House, one of the four houses that students were divided into in the 1940s: Boswell, Williams, Brockington and School (became James). This specific design for the Boswell gym shirt was used between 1933 and 1945.
