This was the 11th Mardi Gras in Cardiff, but the 2nd to be classed as a full festival. In 2014 the event was renamed Pride Cymru. Andrew Dodds visited the 2011 Mardi Gras. He recalled his experiences after the event: “I travelled to Cardiff for Mardi Gras because I have a handful of friends who live in and around Cardiff from the LGBT community. They have often told me about how Mardi Gras is such a tremendous event and so I decided to come and experience it for myself. It certainly did not disappoint. The event itself was such good fun, full of energy and colourful”. “I was thoroughly impressed with how the people of Cardiff, of all sexual orientations and faiths, embraced equality and diversity and turned out in their droves to support the LGBT community at Mardi Gras".
