This photograph was taken at the 1983 Butetown Carnival. We do not know who is playing on stage but the band set up on right of the photograph is Roots and Branches.
Butetown Carnival began in the 1960s, growing into an event which attracted tens of thousands of people. In 1998, after five decades the Carnival stopped being held. In 2014 it was brought back and since then has taken place every year.
