Released in the UK in 1990, many children passed their time in the 1990s playing the Sega Mega Drive.
Jim Groves recalls finally getting his Megadrive: “I’d saved up my money from somewhere – fleecing the grandparents probably – and hatched a plan to buy myself a Sega Megadrive. It had been on my Christmas list for years, but Santa Claus never managed it. I spotted one in the paper, and Dad drove me up to Bargoed where one was being sold second hand with 6 games for £35…. My friends Barnie, Sitty, Owen and I spent many a sunny day with the curtains tightly drawn, eyes squared narrowly on the screen. Micro Machines was the game of choice allowing all four of us to play at once.”
Samantha Edwards recalls getting her Megadrive: “I remember the excitement of receiving the Sega Mega Drive for Christmas in 1993. My nan gave it to me and my sisters as our joint present. We played on it for hours in our house in Bedford Street in Roath. Our favourite games were Altered Beast (which came with the console), Sonic the Hedgehog and World of Illusion.”
