T-shirts like this one were worn by supporters of the Wales Anti-Apartheid Movement (WAAM).
Pauline Bresford, a member of WAAM tells about some their fundraising activities and why she bought the T-shirt.
“Big crowds would always come to the Wales Anti-Apartheid Movement fundraising concerts in St David’s Hall or venues such as Channel View Leisure Centre. In the intervals we would sell T-shirts and collect money. They were good fundraisers. If someone wanted a T-shirt and we didn’t have their size or the colour they wanted we would take their details and contact them when it came in. We would make sure we would get what they wanted.
I bought this T-shirt for when my son would be old enough to wear it but by the time he was old enough, Apartheid had ended.”
Hanef Bhamjee founder of WAAM explains how the money collected from fundraising activities helped support WAAMs work:
The money we raised would pay for demonstrations, production of leaflets, paid bands’ expenses and beers. Very few [bands] took money.
