Clocking-in tokens were used to register the arrival and departure of employees.
Bob Hill was an apprentice with Cardiff Corporation in the 1950s and explains how the token was used: “When I was 17 I carried out an apprenticeship for Cardiff Corporation. This was my clocking-in disc. You had to be in by 8 o’clock, if you were two minutes late they would deduct a half an hour pay. The depot was at Trade Street. When I arrived at the depot the disc would be handed in and when I left it would be handed back to me. The hole in the disk is original, it would be hung on a board that said 120."
