This costume was worn by Sian Carter when she performed the dragon sequence dance at the opening ceremony of the 1999 Rugby World Cup at the Millennium Stadium.
Sian talks about her experience performing at the stadium: “When the big day of the Opening Ceremony arrived there was an atmosphere of great excitement. When we had changed into our costumes we had our makeup applied and our hair styled. Max Boyce came in to say hello and that added to the general air of excitement.
We performed the dances we had practised but, at the time, the whole thing seemed like a blur. It was difficult to believe that as well as the 70,000 watching us in the stadium there were hundreds of millions watching on television. I shall never forget it - it was one of the most exciting days of my life.”
