Grange Albion, the longest running and most successful baseball club in Wales, was founded in 1907. They were formed when they took over the fixtures of the Penarth Road Methodists team in the 2nd Division of the Welsh Baseball Association League.
This baseball bat was used by the club in the 1970s.
Matty Lloyd remembers beginning to play baseball as a teenager: "I was 14 when I started playing baseball. The Marl was just sandy hills then. In those days, baseball was all we had. Our evenings were spent down here. I've got fond memories of it."
Tony Hicks tells us: "Back in the 1970s and 80s, the men's league was very strong with 5 or 6 divisions, and baseball leagues and cups featured routinely in the summer sports of both primary and secondary schools throughout Cardiff. Since the 90s though, things have changed and the sport has fallen off the agenda in many schools with only a few still playing the game. Sadly, without this lifeblood, it is going to be very difficult for baseball to return to former glories. I guess that this is a sign of the times."
